From the early Plymouth colony to Boston’s role as the “Cradle of Liberty” during the American Revolution, to its standing as the first U.S. state to abolish slavery, Massachusetts has always been center stage in American history. The most Irish state in the Union in terms of percentage of total population, Massachusetts is home to the Kennedy family and the Boston Celtics, winners of a record 17 NBA championships.
Its 6,449,755 residents include distinguished scholars and researchers from around the world drawn to the state’s many outstanding institutions of higher learning. Residents enjoy the 2nd highest per capita personal income in the nation behind only Connecticut working in fields including higher education, biotechnology, finance, health care, financial services, and tourism. Massachusetts is the 2nd largest cranberry producing state in the country and year after year gives Wisconsin a run for its money in the battle for the #1 spot.
