Truck Accident Leaves Soybean Oil Spill on Tennessee Parkway

In Tennessee, a truck driver spilled about 75 gallons of soybean oil on a major parkway in downtown Bristol. The accident happened around 4:00pm on October 3, 2007 making the roadway very slippery. It took rescue teams an estimated two hours to get the traffic back on the road. There were no injuries associated with this accident.

Fire rescue reported that Don Crurmley was driving a truck with a total of 250 gallons of soybean oil to a friend's house to make biodiesel fuel. After driving past Anderson Street, a container on the truck broke open and leaked the oil all over the road. The container was originally wrapped with heavy duty cardboard to try to prevent the spill.

The cleanup teams used a powdery substance to absorb all the soybean oil. They also brought another truck to transfer the remaining oil for delivery to the original destination. The driver was in shock and spoke very little about the accident. He also stuck around to help spread absorbent powder and sweep debris.
