Michigan Truck Accident Caused by Driver Fatigue
A Michigan man was driving on I-75 South when his tanker truck swerved across to the northbound lanes. After driving across the northbound lanes the truck then hit a group of trees. The accident was caused by driver fatigue.
James Swindell suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the accident on September 10, 2007. Though he was responsive when emergency crews arrived to the scene, he was trapped in his totalled truck. The rescue crew used the jaws of life to free the driver. Unfortunately, he was bleeding very heavily. A Sheriff’s Department Deputy said, the drivers passing by at the time of the accident witnessed the tanker lose control.
The freeway remained closed for about 4 hours after the accident. The highway reopened just before the morning rush hour. Deputies said the tanker was filled with transmission fluid which did not leak from the tractors container.
